I’ve (28f) been in tears these passed few days because of my medi-cal renewal through the state of California. Last year I wasn’t able to update anything after all my paperwork and such got lost in a move to another state (April-December), had no time or help to get it updated. And now my renewal has come up, I’ve since returned to CA this last December.
I’m terrified they’re going to jail me/fine me for something I had no idea on. Had no access too, even online I didn’t know what to do since I couldn’t find my case workers stuff.
Please, somebody, tell me I’m not going to jail? I didn’t purposely perform fraud, I had no clue of what to do and no time to do so. I’m in absolute tears over this.
Issue: moved to AZ from CA in April 2021, got two different jobs, quit both. Received health insurance through one company for two months but it was ended upon quitting. Returned to CA that December of 2021. Lost paperwork in the chaos of the move and had no time nor the knowledge that I needed to update my info. I tried cancelling but couldn’t figure out how. As of right now I have no form of income at all.
Now I’m scared out of my mind.
I’m hoping to talk to my new case worker and correct things, but I’m so scared they’re going to send me to jail for something I didn’t comprehend or have access to.
I’m sorry this comes off as a panicked vent and request. I really need support right now and I can’t get a hold of my caseworker for help.
Update/Edit: I managed to contact my caseworker and explain my situation. That I wanted to update/correct last year.
She explained to me I had ten days from my original move to update, but that since I’m back and have my renewal notice that I’m ok. Just to remember there is a main phone number I could’ve called and that I have ten days from any event to update my insurance.
She also added that if I’m concerned about any due, contact the doctors I went to last year and make sure they were paid.
I’m feeling better, my anxiety got the best of me. Thank you to those that have read this.
