Insurance issued a check to health provider, but I had already paid the health provider bill. How do I get the money?

Very new to American health care, so sorry if it’s a dumb question – I got a lab test, paid for it, and filed a claim with my insurance. Insurance then issued a check to pay for the test to the health provider. So the health provider now got paid twice, essentially. Not sure if that’s how it normally goes?

How would I now get a refund on the original amount that I paid? Will the health provider automatically refund what I paid? Should the insurance check instead have been sent to me? Any action I need to take? Appreciate your help 🙂
