I’ve been on my employer’s health, vision, and dental insurance for over ten years and have carried the insurance for my husband (and now our 2 kids) too. My husband got a job at the beginning of this year that has benefits so he switched to his employer’s insurance right away. The kids and I will move over to his insurance on July 1st when I lose mine through work. I still qualify for dental and vision though at no extra cost. I can add one dependent for about $25/month or the whole family for $60/month. Are there any cons to consider when having 2 vision/dental insurances? It is legal, right!? I know my husband would have to pay a penalty if I took his health insurance while still being eligible at my job. Does this apply to health/dental too? If we keep my insurance too, I think it’d be worth it to keep my husband as a dependent since he needs work done but the kids don’t as of now.
