Is health insurance usually this wildly complicated?

I have Medi-Cal. I’ve been trying to get an appointment to be seen for a large breast lump and it’s been insane. Like yesterday this doctor who has been trying to help me called and said they got a cancelation for Friday (today) at 9am, I was at work and said I work tomorrow at that time too so needed to ask my boss if I could get that time off first. I did get the time off, but missed the doctor’s call back and their phone system didn’t work when I called, then got a voicemail saying they assume I don’t want the appointment. So I lost this day of work/money and didn’t even get an appointment. They want me to go to the ER and sit there all day to get evaluated, when I say I don’t really want to go to the ER for this they’re basically like “if it’s something serious you’re wasting time” by not going. I’ve had so many phone calls with places that say they don’t take my insurance. Right now the only appointment I was able to make was for September 20th, which is still about 3 weeks away. Yet most doctors say I need to be seen more urgently. ???
