Issue with multiple Insurers

My wife is not 26 yet, and hadn’t aged off her parents insurance yet. We got married about 8 months ago, and I recently got a new job with new insurance

She’s had some large medical bills recently, and in the process of this we realized she was still covered on her parents insurance and my insurance was secondary coverage. I asked them to call and get more info, and they must have misunderstood but they got her taken off their insurance (I’m not sure how, it’s been more than 30 days since I got my job)

I didn’t think anything of this, but, one of the places we went for emergency care for her while out of town is not in network for my Cigna plan… it is for her parents plan. The date she received care was before they “accidentally” canceled her plan from their plan.

My Question: Is she retroactively covered since the date of service was before date of termination of her from their plan, or since she is no longer covered on the plan are we stuck being out of network?
