On December 30th, I had a call with a Kaiser nurse about terminating my pregnancy. I had to choose between medical or surgical so I asked her how much each costs. She told me both would be covered under my insurance. I was ecstatic, it was a huge relief. I immediately chose surgical. I got the procedure on Jan 13th. It’s been roughly 2 weeks and I got a $50 for a blood test (required for the procedure), $165 pathology to test the tissue after the procedure, and the Kaiser billing department said it looks like I have an upcoming bill for $900. I asked on r/abortion and I found out, because I’m a federal employee, my abortion is not covered due to the Hyde Amendment. I know in hindsight I should have called and figured out my coverage but I wasn’t in the best state of mind at the time so I took her word for it. What are my options?
