Please let me know if this question should be posted on another forum and sorry in advance!
My legal residence is my parents’ home in New Jersey however I’ve been living 20 minutes away in Pennsylvania after I got married earlier this year. I still haven’t updated my address anywhere (license, banking, my employer, etc). However I’ve just accepted a new job and will be working from home. I’m eligible for health insurance but it’s almost triple what I’m used to paying with my current employer and in the 7 years I’ve had health insurance, I’ve never once used it (for better or worse LOL). I read that as of 2019 I believe, there is no longer a federal penalty for going without health insurance, however certain states do have a state penalty. Of course… NJ is one of them but PA is not. If I update my address to be PA as of September and then waive my health insurance as of October, will there be any penalty next year? Where exactly will I have to update my address for this to be valid?
Just want to clarify – this question isn’t about whether or not I *should* waive health insurance-I know it’s important to have it but…it’s a personal decision either way. My question is about the financial ‘consequence’ of waiving with my current State resident implications. Thanks in advance! 🙂
