I recently received a 1095-A form for the 2020 insurance that I never knew I had. Here is the story.
I had marketplace insurance in 2019 and I was getting around $900 premium tax credit (PTC) each month which paid the insurance fully. At the end of 2019, I completed the 2020 application online with my updated higher income than last year. My PTC reduced to $600, and so the same insurance would cost me $300 out of pocket after PTC. So I never selected a plan. However, my insurance continued without me picking any plan and marketplace paid them PTC of $900 instead of $600. Because of that I have to pay extra from my 2020 return this year.
In 2019, I was living in a different city 200 miles from the current address. When I completed 2020 application, I reported my new address. But it was not given to the insurance company and so I never knew if I had any insurance. What should I do to get the 1095-A voided or corrected?
