Mass Health Connector is broken and I am about to lose my coverage even though I’ve done everything correctly. Need advice!

Massachusetts Health connector is so unbelievably broken and I am very possibly about to lose my coverage even though I’ve done everything I am supposed to do. I’m not being given a way to fix this.

I get my health insurance from Allways through the Mass Health Connector. I received a letter earlier this fall from the Health Connector stating I need to provide proof of income for 2021 to continue my coverage in 2022. I submitted the documents on Nov 1. As of today, Dec 2, the documents have still not been reviewed. Now Allways has sent me a letter stating my plan will be terminated on December 31.

I called the Health connector and they said it must be a mistake, I am in good standing and I need to call Allways. I’ve been told nothing was sent to Allways. I have been on the phone twice with Allways who explained both times they received a notice of termination from the Health Connector, and they can only keep my insurance active when instructed to by the health connector. They can’t do anything else.

So now I’ve been on the phone with the Health Connector 5 times, for a total of over 4 hours if you include the time spent on hold and dropped calls. Each call is with a new person working from home with a cell phone, and they don’t seem to really know how anything works, and some of them I can’t even understand what they are saying, either they mumble, have a very strong accent, the connection is really bad or a combination of these things. It’s an unbelievable shit show.

I’m just trying to either get my documents approved or get some kind of guarantee that my insurance won’t be canceled if the documents are still pending at the end of the month. They are still telling me I am in good standing and that I need to call Allways. Allways tells me otherwise. So I want them to send a continuation of my policy in the mean time, so it won’t lapse, they say that can’t be done, but can’t say why.

I have been given two case numbers, one for the pending documents, and one for the cancellation notice. But nothing is happening. It’s getting close to the end of the year. I don’t understand why they have sent Allways a notice of termination if I am in good standing while my documents are pending. I filled out a complaint form with the ombudsman online. Have not heard from them.

I am filled with anxiety and frustration. I’m 60 years old. I have ongoing prescriptions and appointments coming up in January. What can I do? Who do I contact?

Any good advice is appreciated, Thanks for reading.
