Maximum # Allowed Visits

My company is switching insurance providers and going to Cigna. There is a stipulation on all plans for a maximum number of allowed visits for therapeutic services (physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy).

Once you go over the maximum number of allowed visits for therapy, you are for all intents and purposes uncovered on any future visits. I was talking to my benefits provider and he told me that our last insurance provider had this stipulation too, but it wasn’t advertised to us when choosing plans. This was a surprise to me because I never knew about it or hit the maximum.

My question is – do nearly all health insurance providers have stipulations like this on therapy services? Is there an easy way to find this information for each health insurance provider? Will these stipulations apply to all insurance plans for a provider or just specific types of plans?

I may end up looking for a new job due to this issue and I want to know how I can research this when I’m interviewing with a company.

Thank you in advance.
