Medicaid/Fidelis (NY) Going to non-Medicaid doc, paying out-of-pocket. What happens w/a prescription he writes me?

Hi all.

Title sums it up, but- I’m 33 with no income and have Medicaid/Fidelis/Dentaquest. I’m sitting here with an impacted wisdom tooth that has infected my gums. I’m on antibiotics from my Dentist and…just miserable. I want this thing extracted asap, but Fidelis oral surgeons are backed up and can’t take me until mid-Feb. I call every day about last minute openings. They all say no. No one cares. If anything they just get more annoyed.

The oral surgeon who pulled my other wisdoms no longer accepts my plan, but will give me a discount on the price- and can see me in a few days. Mere days! A family member wants to pay for me. I honestly cried tears of joy about this…then the paranoia set in when thinking about it.

I don’t think there’s an issue with me going to him and paying (?), but I have no clue how a prescription from a non-provider plays into this.

-Will the script be covered by Fidelis or do I pay full price for it?

-Will Fidelis see the script and get all pissy that I didn’t go to a Fidelis doctor, assume I’m suddenly rich or something and drop me?

-Do I go around Fidelis and take a paper script to an Rx and pay for it as if I don’t have insurance?

I’m not trying to do anything intentionally shady, I just want this pain to go away for good.

I’m thinking of cancelling my appointment as I’m so worried about it :/ Especially since the script will probably be for a painkiller. I wouldn’t want the doc getting in trouble either. TY.

~Just adding that this all would be a non-issue if I was just plain uninsured. I’m willing to drop this awful insurance that I barely use, just to go to this surgeon if need-be.
