I’ve been on Medicaid for the past few years because I haven’t been able to work much due to some health issues. I now have the opportunity to get on my partners PPO (he has Blue Cross). I’ve had a hard time finding a cure for my health issues (nerve damage of some sort, but nobody can tell me exactly what it is), and I obviously want to get back to work ASAP. A lot of people are telling me if I switch to a private insurance I might have access to better care. However, I still don’t have very much money and I would have co-pays on his PPO. I also may eventually have to have surgery and don’t really have the money for that either. I have my boyfriend and family who could help if I absolutely needed it, but I would rather not ask them for money. Does anyone know if there’s actually that much of a difference between the care you receive on Medicaid versus a private insurance? I’m in NYC, so there are a decent number of doctors here who take Medicaid. I’m just curious if they’re more attentive to or prioritize those with private insurance. Thanks!
