Medicaid wants my tax information to count with my parents and disqualify them even though i claim as an independent.

I’m 25, on my parents insurance (medicaid). I made roughly twice what my parents did in 2020 (40k to their 20k), however i filed as an independent. This past year, i’m down to about the same as my parents (20k).

In spite of me filing as an independent, and being outside of the age that they can claim me as a dependent, medicaid wants to include my income with my parents and use that to disqualify us. Is this the case? I was under the impression that because i’m filing independent, how my parents qualify for health insurance is their business and my income does not affect them in anyway, and as i am under 26, i can still be on their health insurance.

Edit: state is NY
