My mom had an afternoon visit in the ER due to Covid. We took her to closest ER – which is out of network for her insurance I learned after the fact (learning a lot about health insurance in general after the fact). She has Medicare Advantage with Kaiser in GA. Waiting on the claim/bill to come thru, and after educating myself further on medical bills/insurance, I’m expecting the insurance company to deny it was an emergency situation, and need to appeal. I’m thinking we have a long road ahead of us…are there any recommended medical bill companies that will help walk you through this entire process (appeals, if denied, process of negotiating bills with hospital). This is my first time dealing with this and surely not my last as my parents are getting older, I would appreciate guidance and be happy to pay for it if it saves my stress and sanity while dealing with this process. I’ve already stressed myself to death about it and we don’t even have the bill or insurance approval/denial yet.
