Missed open enrollment and need insurance

The insurance at my work was too expensive so I opted out of it. I make too much money to qualify for Medicaid and I’m also past the enrollment period for a state covered health plan (Vermont Health Connect in my state). Lately I’ve been missing a lot of work due to sinus issues and I really need insurance. I don’t want to break any laws, but I’m wondering if there is any way for me to sneak around this. Some ideas I’ve had are, taking a temporary layoff, having my work “fire” me and then returning once I have insurance. I haven’t filed my taxes yet, so maybe I could use my tax return from last year as proof of income because I was in college and didn’t make much money at the time. Just wondering if I have any options or if Im basically just screwed.
