Mom on ventilator in Mexico, she’s a US citizen and insurances are not paying, need advice.

My mother has been in La Paz Mexico on a sailboat. She walked into the ER, diagnosed with heart failure and is now on a ventilator. She has Medicare plans A and B. She has Regence Bridge Plan G that she bought for this travel outside the US.

The hospital is demanding money almost every hour and we are beyond stressed. They have the insurance information and have sent the itemized bills to Regence but state that they don’t believe Medicare will pay. The insurance benefits are difficult to understand as well as Drs. And nursed etc due to the language barrier. We have given them $4000 USD up to now but the bills keep piling up over 20,000.

My questions: does anyone have any experience related to our situation that has advice?

Is anyone familiar with these insurance plans that can tell if she should be covered?

We want to fly her out via medivac to the closest US hospital in San Diego. Could cost upwards of 20-30 thousand. Would either insurance cover this?

If a medivac flight begins and ends in the US, as in a US based flight company picking her up in Mexico and flying to San Diego, would Medicare cover it? Or Regence?

We are at a loss for what to do and do not have cash on hand to just pay for it all. We are waiting to find out if Regence will cover but it has been slow and bills are racking up…any advice would be amazing, thank you.
