I’m hoping someone here can help me figure out what resources exist for my situation! I’m currently the breadwinner for my family and living in WA with my spouse and two children. He has a job offer that begins in mid-October in MA. Since we have some savings, we would like to spend a few months with our families before he begins work. Here’s the timeline:
August: I resign and we lose our employer family plan insurance—the kids may be eligible for CHIP in WA at this point? September: we move to MA, still not employed; we switch the kids to MA CHIP if possible October: his job begins and we’re covered through his employer’s plan.
This plan leaves the adults uninsured from August to mid-October. I’m assuming that if something major were to happen during that time, we could invoke COBRA coverage? Is there anything else major that I’m missing?
