Moving states for a new job–questions on Obamacare details

Hey all. I am moving states for a new job. We will be stopping in a 3rd state mid-move to visit family. I have a spouse and a 10 month old, both of whom are covered through my job. I am a bit confused on how to proceed. Here is an outline of my situation:

6/30–End my job in California

7/6–Fly to Florida to visit family.

7/23–Fly to Pennsylvania. Move in my new apartment, etc.

8/15–Start my new job in Pennsylvania. Benefits begin on that day.

We currently have Kaiser Permanente, which uses a vertically integrated model, as our provider. From what I understand, Kaiser mostly operates on the west coast. I’m under the impression that if you’re in an area with no Kaiser facilities nearby, they will cover emergencies, but not anything else. This would be bad if my child catches a cold (or something similarly mild), and we wanted to bring him to a pediatrician. This makes me think COBRA is not a good option.

So, it seems like signing up for Obamacare is the right option and that I will need to purchase coverage for two months. Would I be able to sign up in PA for the entire two months, or would this leave me uncovered for our time in CA (and FL)? Or would I have to sign up for Obamacare in CA and then again in PA. If this is the case, would we be covered in FL? Would I have to double pay for the month of July?

We have no plans on seeing any physicians during this time and we have no major health problems. Our main concern is being able to see a pediatrician if our son gets sick. He is between his 9 month and 1 year checkup, so we’ll just schedule his 1 year checkup for as soon as my employer health insurance kicks in.

Thanks for any advice!
