Hi all, this has been keeping me up at night and I’m still not sure what to do. I’ll keep it brief with just the objective, factual info so it’s easier.
-I have a chronic illness that requires me to take a pill every day.
-the medication is (of course) insanely expensive.
-the maker of the medication offers a copay card.
-typically, they’d bill the copay card following my insurance… that way it eats at my deductible without me paying thousands. This usually works out that by the time the copay card is out, my deductible is also met, so I pay very little.
-I’m moving to a new state at the end of this month. My January meds and February meds will use the above process.
-I’m self-employed. Unless I’m mistaken — there’s no way that I can “transfer” my plan to the new state with the deductible I’ve chipped away at.. my deductible will start over. This is a problem, as the drug maker only covers so much per year with the copay card. Thus, with the deductible resetting, there’s no way I can use the copay card until my deductible is met, unless I’m missing something.
I’d really appreciate anyone’s thoughts or insight — this has kept me up at night for multiple nights — I need this medication and I really can’t afford thousands for 30 days worth of pills. This medication is also not given in 60 day or 90 day quantities.
If it’s at all helpful or relevant, I have blue cross/blue shield. Thanks for reading
