MRI approved without contrast, can I pay for contrast out of pocket?

I am in PA, I have Cigna insurance through my spouse.

My doctor called in a thoracic and lumbar MRI with contrast, but my insurance denied it. My doctor called my insurance and got them to approve a lumbar MRI without contrast.

Can I ask at the imaging center to get the MRI with contrast and pay the difference out of pocket, or will insurance see that as unapproved and not cover any of it?
