Multi-state health insurance?

For the last several years, I’ve been on WA’s medicaid-expansion health care system. It’s been very excellent and I have no complaints. My primary work is as seasonal independent contractor, which has made me eligible. The last few months I’ve been going to MT to help with elderly family members. Chances are I’ll have to move there permanently. WA has told me they only cover emergencies out of state, and though I don’t know it specifically, I suspect that the MT version is not nearly as good as WA, or even if I qualify.

What do people do who are stuck between two (or more) states? Can I enroll in MT’s system while also being on WA’s system? Will they be able to find out? Is doing so illegal?
