My Brother is Unstable and ended up in ER, without insurance. IDK what to do.

As the title mentions, we had to check my brother into the ER as he was mentally unstable to an emergency level. I love him so much, so I really want to help. He JUST moved back to USA, so had no type of insurance. We followed advice to avoid Ambulance ride costs, but they still took him in ambulance. We told them to take him to a hospital that accepts Medicaid, and they took him to the ONLY hospital around that doesn’t accept Medicaid. We really need to get him help, he is delusional, but now he’s stuck in the hospital and we’re just so worried about costs and don’t want this to define his entire life.

We’ve reached out for advice, but get contradictions and issues and nobody seems to understand ALL of it. I’m wondering whether there is any way to get him insured that will back-cover the costs, as he is STILL in there and has NOT received a bill yet? He has since applied for Medicaid at the hospital, and were hoping he can get transfered to a hospital that accepts it. This jsut happened yesterday, but even two days in a hospital is astronomical here. Is there any advice at all that could assist with this? This has been such a nightmare to my entire family, he is stuck in a room that isn’t even providing the help he needs as of yet.

We really need to talk to someone who knows the industry and everywhere we go for help, we seem to make a huge mistake. This is not good, was last minute, and we’re anticipating hundreds of thousands of dollars and we don’t want to pile on the issues he’s already facing, causing more instability. They said he gets a 40% discount, but still does not seem like much with a bill of his size (once we see it).

Please PLEASE help us, if you can, we really don’t want this one incident to determine the rest of his life. It happened right before MLK day, so our options were limited, but now we are hoping to find a way to fix this (or minimize as much as possible). We are desperate. My whole family is hit by this and is devastated. Any resources may help. I would really appreciate any advice, but am looking to cover the day he’s already been in, and any further costs.

I’d be willing to compensate even for the advice. Please let me know if you can help in any way. I love my brother. I’m devastated. I really don’t want to inform him he’s incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars with no way to pay, due to his issues. We’re really hurting and could use some help.

I really appreciate it and also just hope you never have to go through this.

Edit: Michigan, age 33, Beaumont Hospital, 48220, he has no income
