I’ve been with my current employer for 2 years now, and they only offer 2 health insurance options. I had the $35 per week with a $750 yearly deductible plan for the past 2 years. On this plan my prescriptions and Dr visits are 100% covered without needing to meet the deductible first. The deductible has to be met before they cover any tests or hospital stays, etc. I have never met the deductible for this plan. Not even close.
So this year, I decided to switch to the $25 per week plan with a $6,000 yearly deductible just to see if it’s more beneficial for me. I’m 34 and have no serious health problems yet. I specifically asked my HR department to confirm that the ONLY thing different about this plan is the amount of the yearly deductible. I asked if my prescriptions and Dr visits would still be 100% covered without any changes. They confirmed that nothing else would change and the paperwork backs that up.
Well when I tried to pick up my meds they were significantly more expensive than before. ($10 med now $60). I called the insurance company and was told I have a $1,500 deductible to meet before my prescriptions and Dr visits are covered 100%. I contacted my employer and they are still saying what they told me before, and they don’t know what happened. I know a few people at work with the same plan as me and they’re saying that their Dr visits and prescriptions are 100% covered.
Is there anything I can do if my employer is telling me something completely different than the insurance company? I literally cannot afford my medications or Dr visits now. I don’t know what to do.
