My insurance didn’t cover certain lab tests

I work for Sutter hospital, and have their employee insurance EPO plan.

In March, I went in for a precautionary STD screening to make sure I’m in good health.

Luckily I am. However, my insurance coded some of the labwork as “experimental/investigative” and as such, my insurance is not fully covering the cost.

I was sent a bill from Quest Diagnostics for $676.

I sent in an appeal (with my signature & Doctor signature & office notes), and I’ve been in contact with my insurance and Quantum Health.

I received a notice that Quantum Health stands by their original assessment. But I may try for a second appeal.

I emailed a lady in Quantum Health, asking how to proceed with secondary appeal.. no reply yet as of a couple days.

I have MetLife legal plan (deducted from my paychecks for legal help). Wondering if I should take this next step with MetLife.

$676 feels like a lot for paying for a standard STD screening.

I’m glad I’m at least in good health, not so happy about the bill.

Advice? Thank you for reading and any feedback.
