So, I am in one of those states where Friday offers health insurance, North Carolina. I just did a search for a PCP and there’s 157 results. I am not exaggerating when I say that 99.5% of those providers are nurse practitioners. There’s probably five physicians, and they’re all male. I prefer a female physician. This makes me feel like I will not be able to get a decent level of in-depth care if I go with an NP because they simply just don’t have to same kind of education or training.
I feel like it would be pointless to call Friday, because what can they really do about it? I really can’t afford other plans because I have a part time job and don’t get a subsidy (I fall into that family glitch issue). So I feel like I am stuck paying almost $400 a month for a plan that won’t actually help me with what I need.
Anyone have any experience using an NP as their PCP? Am I overreacting, or should I just hunt for a new plan? Clearly I can’t use the ACA at this time of year, but I suppose I could hunt for something else.
