I have an HMO marketplace plan. 29 and no dependents.
I see a therapist regularly who is an LPC and cannot prescribe medication. I was previously being seen by a PNP (psychiatric nurse practitioner) in combo with the LPC to get my meds which I take daily. I moved to a new city in July 2021 and the PNP’s practice is in my hometown. I got away with it for a while since the visits were telehealth but once they found out I moved permanently, they could no longer see me.
In December 2021 I saw a new OB/GYN in my new city and chose him as my PCP. I’ve only seen him once but as I’m now looking for someone to prescribe my medication (not a controlled substance), could I go in to see him and bring my therapist’s diagnosis for him to write the rx? I haven’t really established much of a relationship but with my plan, specialist visits cost much more than PCP visits so I’m looking to cut costs. Would it be better if I switched to a family doctor for my PCP?
I’m confused! Help!
