I went to my dentist last week for a scheduled cleaning (plus due for some x-rays), and only after they were all done was I told that a new dentist was working there. The original dentist had left and bought another practice somewhere else or something. The name of the dentistry is still the same and I had no clue that anything was different (the cleaning was done by an associate, as it normal; they introduced me to the new dentist at the very end of the visit).
The new dentist is out-of-network. My Cigna insurance just sent me info about my claim and now it says I owe a significant amount that was not covered.
What can I do here? Are there legal protections for this sort of thing in North Carolina? It seems like it should not be legal.
