Need a biopsy, terrible insurance, can’t afford the deductible. What are my options?

I have UHC Oxford through my job, located in NY if it matters. I brought a small, painful lump that had appeared on my bicep to my doctor’s attention about 2 months ago. He sent me for a sonogram, then an MRI. The sonogram was somehow covered but the MRI was not. Apparently my policy only does coinsurance for diagnostic tests, so I’ll be taking a $400 bath on that.

They determined that it was probably a peripheral nerve sheath tumor but can’t rule out a sarcoma without a biopsy. Apparently this biopsy costs $12k and Oxford is only going to cover $8k. I don’t have $4,000 in my checking account. I don’t even have that in available credit. I’m in the process of trying to move jobs to one with better insurance but the appointment is next week so I’m stuck with what I have for now.

As it stands it looks like I’m going to have to cancel the appointment and deal with the pain / hope this doesn’t become a larger issue until I have better insurance. I tried calling Oxford this morning and got someone who knew nothing about my plan but kept trying to push their “promotion” for a free life alert pendant, which makes zero sense because I’m 30 and have no mobility issues. Am I out of options here?
