Ok I’m confused. Insurance confuses me so much, I don’t even know if I chose the right flair.
My main questions are how to get a prior authorization from my insurance when I already have a paper referral and also, if I go to the emergency room (or urgent care) will my copay cover the cost of the whole visit like if they have to run tests?
So here is the situation. I recently had a Pap smear and was given a referral for a transvaginal ultrasound / pelvic ultrasound. Originally just bc cancer runs in my family but the pap found that I had an infection from my iud, so I got the iud taken out and was told again to get the ultrasound to confirm the infection before being prescribed antibiotics.
Diagnostics testing is $0 but imaging tests have a $100 copay with my insurance and need a prior authorization… I have the referral for the ultrasound but I need to call the nurse practitioner who gave me the referral and request that she send it to my health insurance so I can get it approved before getting the ultrasound, right?
Also, I’m starting to have symptoms from the infection and it’s getting really uncomfortable. When I had the iud taken out, a second nurse who did the removal said I should go to the ER so they can do the ultrasound and prescribe antibiotics right away if I need.
An ER visit copay is $250… if they do an ultrasound there will that even be covered? Or are any tests they run included? I’m so confused and really uncomfortable… any help is appreciated!!!
