Need help deciding between HDHP and PPO – Need advice from experience

Hello- It’s that time of the year!

A little background- I am a contract working, my income is roughly 35k a year. My employer is offering and HDHP and a PPO. This year I did a PPO.

I have two options, these are made up numbers just to kind of give the idea of my options (I’m not sure if health insurance rates are confidential. If it’s not, I will update it just lmk):

HDHP PPO Monthly Cost 100 200 Deductible 2500 5000 General Care Copay Coinsurance Emergency and Complex Care Zero Coinsurance Coinsurance In-Network Max 5000 5000 Out-Network Max 12000 20000

I freaking hate this system, but here I am living in ‘murica. I can’t decide what to get because I’ve been having joint pain in a specific spot and likely need X-Rays next year (I have a doctors apt in December, I probably should have done this sooner but was hoping it would go away). I’m not exactly strapped for cash, and I’m mostly healthy. I do have one other health concern I’m unsure about. I’m 30 years old. I don’t know what to do.

If my health problems snowball worse than I think, I’m screwed with HDHP. If I end up being okay and there are no major issues, I’m screwed with PPO. I will likely be able to contribute the full amount to an HSA next year.

In the back of my head I feel like an HDHP deters preventative care. Why is our system like this?
