I was referred to neurosurgery by my PCM. This was based on T-spine MRI findings. When I went to schedule the referral, I discovered that it was assigned to a Physiatrist. I am a bit confused. Does this mean that I am not a candidate for surgery?
The referral was put in as cervicalgia although the majority of issues are located in my upper back. I also have an unremarkable C-spine MRI. Is it possible that by listing the referral as cervicalgia that the reviewer did not look at the T-spine MRI even though the referral notes state that I have upper back pain/ degeneration?
I am currently active-duty so I am unable to self refer for most things.
Who normally reviews referrals before they are approved? Is it a physician?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
