I am starting a new job and they have completely different insurance plans than my old job. Now I have an option for a buy up plan or a HSA plan. I see my pcp once per year and other than possible urgent care visits for minor things like strep throat, I don’t typically need to see a Dr since I’m relatively healthy. I have a prescription for migraine medication, but I refill it maybe every 3 months because it is an as needed med. I am considering the hsa plan bc the premiums are low, and I wouldn’t be utilizing my insurance a lot if I bought the buy up plan.. but I know I should put money towards the health saving account to have to cover normal expenses + emergencies, but I dont know what a good number to save is.
does anyone have anything similar and how do you consider the amount you contribute? i know this is for health care costs, so I want to put in enough that makes sense but still be able to have a decent pay check.
