New plan with different insurer for 2022 – do I need to cancel my current plan?

Quick facts about my current situation –

Been on an Individual/Family Plan with Kaiser Mid-Atlantic since I lost my parents’ insurance in March

Decided to switch after a whole year of in-network Behavior Health specialists blowing me off; had no out-of-network coverage so I was stuck

Signed up with Carefirst through MD Health Connection (state’s marketplace/exchange thing); effective Jan 1

So I got this letter from KP back in October that said:

Unless you take action by December 15, you’ll be automatically enrolled in this plan for 2022.

What you need to do

Decide if you want to enroll in this plan or choose another one.

I want to enroll in this plan.

Pay the new monthly premium by December 31, 2021 and you’ll be automatically enrolled.

I want to pick a different plan.

You can choose a different plan between November 1, 2021 and January 15, 2022. Enroll by December 15 for coverage to start January 1.

I went with option B there, and enrolled in my new plan before the 15th as recommended. I received KP’s January ’22 premium bill as expected. All my plan documents and such state my “plan year” goes through 04/01/2021 to 12/31/2021.

I’m obviously not interested in paying my Kaiser premium for January, but is there still anything else I have to do? Like call them and tell them we’re done? I can’t just leave them hanging right?

None of my Kaiser letters mention anything about cancelling. There isn’t any info on their site or my account. No big “end coverage” button. Any info I find on cancelling plans is about changing jobs or other major life events outside of the open enrollment period.

What’s the move, guys?
