Hi there!
I’m about 5 weeks out from my due date with my first child. The original plan was to add the baby to my unmarried partner’s health insurance plan, which he would acquire through work (he is currently uninsured). I am currently on my parents’ private health insurance still (Florida Blue), though 2022 is the last year of my eligibility on their plan. It was very expensive to add the baby to my parents’ plan, which is why we decided that my SO would take out insurance through work and add the baby as his dependent.
Now SO wants to quit his job. He said he’d apply for Medicaid and have the baby as his dependent on Medicaid. Would this be allowed? I’m worried it won’t because I definitely don’t qualify for Medicaid and I’m already on a private plan. But we are unmarried so he is saying that if he is the one to claim the baby (for taxes and Medicaid) then it is legal.
Also in case it comes up, my job only barely subsidizes private insurance so it’s still prohibitively expensive, which is why I’m still on my parents’ plan.
Thank you in advance!
