Newborn stayed in hospital 72 hours after vaginal birth and insurance denied room and board claim. How?

Hello, we recently had our first daughter. During the birth there were complications in which they requested she stay 3 days more than the standard 2. However we just received our bill from insurance that the claim for her room and board was denied due to no preauthorization. After researching it seems like the first 48 hours are protected but I have no idea about if it’s longer.

We can’t be the only family in the world in which the newborn stays longer than 48 hours in the hospital. So where do we go from here? Are we out of luck? There was literally no way we could get preauthorized because she was constantly in the hospital.
