I’m currently working in a contracted position, so I’m not eligible for the benefits the company provides its salaried employees. I’m covered by COBRA (just me – no family) through my last job until July and my employment contract ends a little before that. I would like to start working for a company that provides benefits at that point, but if my contract was extended with a pay increase, I would probably stay. My COBRA premium is $600/month for health ($1500/$3000)+dent+vision, which feels quite expensive after paying a fraction of that while employed with the company. I’ve been putting off a hernia surgery (not emergent), so that is in the back of my mind and because I work around a lot of people, COVID as well. I‘m someone who likes lower deductible policies, as I’m always planning for the worst. Mixing and matching marketplace plans with vision and dental is generally coming out to be mid $400s to low $500s…
The agency has offered a fixed indemnity plan (https://imgur.com/dMo2m8a)through ACA that would deducted from my paychecks, incredibly affordable at $130/month for health/vision/dent/std/term but it seems to be fairly limited in coverage. My current health insurance company offers short term insurance (https://imgur.com/xpTVWCt) – $152/month and it seems to be a step up from the indemnity plan, but still limited in coverage?
Some marketplace options I’m considering:
Harvard Pilgrim: Monthly Premium $444. Medical & Prescription Drug Deductible: $1,500 member / $3,000 family https://www.harvardpilgrim.org/rest/eoc/content?pdid=PD0000100801&type=sbc
Monthly premium $401. $3,500 member / $7,000 family https://www.harvardpilgrim.org/rest/eoc/content?pdid=PD0000100884&type=sbc
Anthem Monthly Premium: $394, Annual Deductible $2,500 – $0 drug/ $6,000 – tiered plan = 30% coinsurance in tier 1. https://imgur.com/JNqkSgj. Anthem offers a health/vision/dental bundle for $460/month.
Local member led insurance plan:
$485: $500/$1500 plan https://healthoptions.org/documents/2022/33653ME001001300-0921
$387: $2500/$6000 https://healthoptions.org/documents/2022/33653ME001001200-0921
