Due to some serious issues last year I reached my out of pocket max before June. I went to no fewer than 4 medical centers and multiple physicians after that and every one of them continued to charge me for services anyway. Not one of those medical centers, providers or my health insurance company has refunded a penny to me despite the fact I did not owe them what was billed.
Question for the insurance professionals out there: Where did this extra money end up? Do the medical centers and doctor’s offices just keep it? Do they refund it to the insurance company? They sure as hell aren’t refunding it to me voluntarily.
I’ve started the long process of going back through my payments and intend on demanding refunds, but it would help to know where that extra money ended up. I’m in CA.
