So I’m basically down to looking at two relatively cheap plans from the Marketplace.
Option 1 is a Bronze, $0 deductible plan with an $8550 Out of Pocket Maximum
Option 2 is a Silver, local provider network with a $4000 deductible and a $6800 OOP Maximum.
Where I’m hung up on deciding which is better is that the Bronze plan has set prices for just about everything. Whereas the Silver plan only has set prices for drugs and primary/specialist visits. I’m having a hard time figuring out if the fixed prices or the coinsurance is going to be less in the long run. I don’t have much experience with this and googling for the average cost of these procedures before insurance has been less than helpful.
For example: X-Ray: $100 vs 40% co-insurance
ER Visit: $1000 vs 40% co-insurance
Surgical services: $300 vs 40% co-insurance (this one seems like it’d be a huge savings for the Bronze plan with a set fee, right).
I know I also have to consider the Bronze plan’s out of pocket maximum, but considering the lack of deductible it seems like the cheaper option unless something catastrophic happens?
