I feel like an idiot, but I recently turned 26 and don’t get insurance through my employer ( I am a private nanny) and had to navigate marketplace insurance for the first time. I’m in PA for reference. I was riding it out on my parents insurance for as long as possible.
That being said, I have my own insurance now I’m and it’s alright, I’m just very limited on doctors I can see but it’s fine for now. But, can someone please help me understand how prescription drugs work?
My summary of benefits says “generic medications: $13.80 copay.” Literally, what does this mean? If I have a $25 office visit copay, then I pay my doctors office $25 when I go there. But if I go to the pharmacy and get my prescription, I don’t pay $13.80? Is that the maximum for any drug? What about if it’s a higher mg or quantity?
I’m newly diagnosed with adult ADHD and my psych is great in working to prescribe a drug that won’t break the bank, but I also want to take the drug thats best for me at the same time. I feel like I can’t even ask her about other options because I don’t even understand how my insurance works.
Any help is super appreciated. Thanks guys.
