Portfolios (Part Two – Brainstorming)

Welcome to the 2nd post in a series on portfolios, glad to have you all here!

Recap

For a refresher or for those who are new to this series, in Part One the background around what I had done before and tools I tried was covered. Check out ‘Actions for this Step’ if you want to embark on this quest alongside this series. I will include things to do during this step as well as a few things to do as ‘homework’ for the next step.

The rest of the series looks something like this, but is subject to change:

Part One – Background

Part Two – Brainstorming [YOU ARE HERE ]
Part Three – Organization of Content
Part Four – Update Plan
Part Five – Summary and Update final

One thing I did not cover well in Part One was ‘why do I post this here?’ To answer that, as an addendum to Part One, the reason is mostly due to the eLearning content I want to have in my portfolio. Most of it is from projects made with Adobe Creative Cloud and/or with Adobe Captivate. Previous versions of my portfolio often had some of these left out (mostly the eLearning content), apart from some videos or screenshots covering what I had done.

Now on to Part Two – Brainstorming!

Part Two – Brainstorming

This post will be even more random than usual. I will be purely listing ideas that come to mind, and much of the list will likely only make sense to me. To others following along with their own project, I suggest a similar sort of ‘brain dump’. Part 3 will be an evaluation and hopefully also a synthesis of this brainstorming.

Actions for Step Two

List topics to consider around portfolios
Try not to synthesize topics while brainstorming – not too much, anyway. Ha.

Brainstorming (in list form)

Areas to consider:

Portfolio location

Website to use for portfolio

Tools for building content
What assets/projects do I have already?
Branding
Design

Layout, format, fonts, colors, accessibility, organization

Skills

Technology, programming, instructional design

Innovation
Resume
Accomplishments
Social Media
Demos/Samples of projects/designs
Only digital? Summary version?
What will need updating? How will I remind myself to do it?
What coding do I want to be able to do? For overall development to show skill.

Next Steps

Make a priorities list/map
Pull together assets/projects to include. Categorize based on type.
Research more portfolio websites/tools.
