I recently started a new job and enrolled in the basic medical plan, costing me about $50/weekly. Preventative care, prescription drugs and office visits are covered 100% with no deductible, while hospitalization is not covered. I waived the hospital bridge insurance plan as I’m 27 and healthy. I also paid about half of what I do now in my previous job, so honestly, I was feeling stingy.
Now I’m panicking a bit at the thought of having 0 coverage if I wind up in the ER. Do I have any options to enroll in emergency-only care on my own that aren’t atrociously expensive?
If it helps, my new plan is BlueCross BlueShield Basic Medical Plan. Although when I google that, I see info for federal employees, of which I am not. I’m technically hired by a contracting company right now until my actual employer can hire me full time. That could happen anywhere from .5-1.5 years from now and at that point, my insurance will change.
Thank you in advance!
