Pre-existing condition

So for most of my life, I’ve not had health insurance (parents had small business and couldn’t afford to cover us) so going to the doctor was a rarity. Since I’ve started a new job and just got on a decent health plan, our company has encouraged us to get physicals and screenings and they will reward us with money towards our HSA.

In light of this, it has made me think about a skin condition I’ve had since my whole life, and I read something that triggered me to get it checked out. That is to say, I have pigmented finger and toe-nails (I’m an African-American). I’ve read online that, due to my demographic and the fact that I’ve had it so long from a young age, it’s probably fine. The few doctors I did see as a kid never mentioned anything about it, and I had an out-of-pocket physical done last year and the GP told me not to worry about it. But, on the off chance it isn’t fine, I’d like to at least have a dermatologist take a look at it.

My question is this: will there be an issue with me going to the doctor for a condition that is, obviously, pre-existing? Will I be penalized in some way? I have no idea how exactly this all works so I’m just wondering if this is something that I need to handle differently (Maybe pay out of pocket?)
