Hello! I know I can’t be the only person in this situation, as people do change jobs at the end of the month.
My husband left his old job on Aug. 13. That employer-sponsored health insurance ends on Aug. 31. We declined COBRA, thinking everything would be just fine with ACA.
He started his new job, which pays a lot more [this is relevant] the following Monday.
We got everything rolling with the ACA, estimating our income from combining and dividing the two different incomes from the two jobs, and then waited for our papers to arrive. They finally did on Friday, and I opened them tonight and saw that we can’t begin coverage until we prove the income that we claimed in the application. ‘
Problem: his new employer pays monthly, and we won’t get a pay stub until well into September. What can we use? Last year’s tax return doesn’t reflect what 2021’s income will be—not even close—so that’s out. Would a letter from the employer suffice? At this point, unless we can find a satisfactory document, we’re looking at not having health insurance for a few weeks, and with a big family and covid running wild, that’s making me feel sick to my stomach.
I’m going to call healthcare dot gov tomorrow, but I always like to get clarity and information from the nice people of reddit before I talk to anyone else. Thank you so much.
