My wife and I operate a consulting business under an S Corp. Because we’re related I have to buy insurance under the Individual Marketplace.
I have someone who’s started working for me as a contractor, but I’m considering making them an employee. My understanding is that we’d then be able to get insurance via SHOP.
I have two concerns though. One is that the potential employee works remotely from another state. And two, if the position doesn’t work out then what happens if they quit/are fired because then we wouldn’t meet the SHOP requirements anymore. Can anyone share any info on what’s involved in adding non-related employee #1?
Edit: If it matters I’m incorporated in NC and the potential employee is in VA.
