Hi everyone! I’m pretty new to this and need help making a decision. I’m in the Dallas area and I’m enrolling in benefits through my employer. Their option for healthcare is through UMR which I read is a TPA of United Healthcare. Does that mean if I’m trying to search for physicians in my area and want to see what insurance they take, will it list as UHC? I’m seeing a neurologist and it looks like he takes UHC.
I’m also trying to decide between EPO or PPO. I know I have to see all in-network providers under an EPO. It has a higher deductible (1000) than the PPO (500) but has a lower monthly cost. This past year I had to get a some tests and scans. I ended up meeting my deductible and was ultimately grateful that I was on a PPO plan that had a lower deductible. However, going into 2022, I’m mostly seeing my neurologist for maintenance visits (his website states he takes UHC EPO plan). I’ll probably see him twice next year unless something goes wrong. I’m still leaning towards the EPO but am still hesitant. I was hoping for opinions from other people as I’m still kinda new to doing this on my own and it’s all still pretty confusing for me.
