Hello, I have United medical insurance with a carve out from Optum. I’ve been on anti-depressants and have been able to get them through my GP for years. Not anymore. I must see a in-network mental health provider.
Fast forward, I’ve been dealing with depression and anxiety and I feel I need to get back on these anti-depressants. I’m assuming only a Psychiatrist can prescribe me these.
If I were to ask my GP on advice on who I need to see (Psychiatrist, Psychologist, etc) during a normal visit, would it get coded as a mental health? If it does, United will not pay any of it because my GP is “not in network as a mental health provider.” I don’t want to get a surprise bill like I did before.
I hope this makes sense. I’ve never had to see a Psychiatrist or anything before.
