#rant I’m a nurse case manager. I grew up in a single payer country, but now work in the USA. The health insurance system hurts me in my soul.

I have a patient that’s on a $1200 a month disability pension. They take $200 a month for premiums. I want to discharge her on eliquis. The pharmacy called and said it would be just shy of $500 for a starter pack. It’s probably her deductible. But she’s not going to pay it. If I can’t find a way to get it she will go home without the AC she needs. Also because it’s a managed Medicare plan the pharmacy can’t apply coupons. This system makes me sick.
