Receiving medical bills a almost a year later. Logged onto insurance website & they denied all last year claims??

Received bills in the mail today for amounts insurance should have paid because I already contributed my copay in the office.

Last year I started a new job in January so started new insurance. I had to leave the company in August, so insurance stopped then. My new company insurance is through the same provider.

I logged into my insurance website this morning and all my claims from the past year are unpaid with the reason being that I didn’t confirm they were my only insurance. I didn’t even know you could have more than one, and they never called me?? Like for hundreds of dollars maybe call instead of email to my junk folder??

I don’t have my old insurance card anymore because I threw it out upon deactivating that account, but I need to call them and ask why they didn’t cover? But don’t have the specific number because I don’t have my card?

Do insurance companies go back and cover already denied claims from a year ago? I pay over $100 every month out of my paycheck for the best plan my work offers so I shouldn’t have to worry about it.

Should my next steps be the following…??

1) Call insurance and ask about all the denied claims, confirm they’re my only insurance and hope they pay denied claims?

2) call providers and ask for extension on bills because I am communicating with my insurance?

3) how long before bills goes to collections? And what is the likelihood I will have to pay these bills? I have really high credit score and don’t need any dings as I get ready to move and apply for new apartments. And I don’t have a spare $3k to pay on bills that were supposed to be covered.
