I received a request for previous insurance info on behalf of a pathology lab so that they can send a claim to my (then) insurance. The statement date on the letter says 1/24/2022, and the service date says 7/24/2020.
Is there any kind of rules in the US for how long after a service you can be billed a statement? I have no problem paying my bills, and I can always call my insurance company to get the information from that year in case it’s changed, but I’ve never had a company try to send a claim 1.5 years after the service date. It just seems super odd to me since the results from that lab work were given to me literally a week after it was done, and I’ve never received anything else in the mail other than the hospital’s own lab bills (as evident by the statement date of this letter).
Edited to add that I’m in Oregon, if that makes any difference.
