So I am self-employed in Florida, and Blue Cross, Blue Shield has dramatically increased my premiums year after year, and we just received a letter that it will now be $1,572 per month for my wife and I (ages 58 & 60, non-smokers in good health) and that’s with a whopping $5000 deductible before they even start paying a penny.
I am seriously considering just becoming self-insured and just starting to save up this money into a special medical savings account instead.
However, before taking that big step, does anyone know if there are plans that would cover major medical events (i.e. – hospitalizations, cancer, etc) and we pay the normal doctor visits ourselves?
